About SheSue
I am an empty nester and a baby boomer and I’m not going to take it sitting down. Hi, I’m Shelley Sue. I was born in Alaska, but have spent nearly all my life in Oregon. I grew up in the beautiful Columbia River Gorge then moved to Portland after high school and have lived near Portland ever since.
I was raised on 4-H clubs, the domestic version. I can bake a mean butter cake and can alter sewing patterns but don’t know a thing about horses or pigs. I was the quiet, good little girl. Casper the ghost was my hero because he was friendly to everybody. And this is the impression I leave with many. It shocks people when I even mention doing anything radical, but that hasn’t stopped me yet. I am not going to sit around watching life pass me by. I plan to get out there and try out everything I can. You can follow me on my journey or you can get off the couch and join me.
I went to college several times, but never graduated. I kept losing interest. I’ve tried out teaching, journalism, writing for children, landscaping, computer programming, writing screenplays, and psychology. My dad was a teacher and loved to travel and explore. My mom was the great organizer. She had to be with 5 kids to raise.
I homeschooled my own children and could talk about them endlessly. You will hear about them in many blogs. That’s my daughter and I at the top of the page and with my son at the bottom. My son is working on a mechanical engineering degree at OSU hoping to do something with race cars. My daughter is a new graduate in literature, hoping to get into editing or writing. She got married recently. And here I sit in my big house trying to decide what to do with the rest of my life.
I have visited many career counselors and have read many books on the subject. I knew I didn’t want some random office job. I knew that I loved to get out and explore. It was on a hiking trip when an epiphany came to me: I love to learn about and try new things and I love to write. She Sue Experience was born.
Have you ever wanted to try something but didn’t because you just wanted to know what it would be like. Welcome to my blogsite where I’m always trying out stuff and showing you what it’s like through words, pictures and video. Have something you’d like me to try out? Give me a shout. I am forever curious and look forward to suggestions.
